Transformers: Revenge of the Box Office

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is taking the world by storm. It is only the second movie with 2008's The Dark Knight to score a massive US$200 million in just 5 days of release in the US. It is also estimated to have made US$387 million world-wide so far.

The sequel to 2007's Transformers has had mixed reviews since its release. The public and critics have been saying "it's far too long", "robots look a bit fake" and the old one "it's not as good as the original". Despite the not so glowing reviews, fans are loving it and are flocking to it in huge numbers and even seeing it more than once.

I have yet to see the new installment, but was a big fan of the original. I was one of the kids who grew up in the Transformers era in the 80's and 90's but never actually owned one, preferring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles side of growing up, but have enjoyed the movie adaptations immensely.

I'd say in a few weeks once the crowds die down, I'll be giving it a go. There's nothing like seeing a big action blockbuster on the big screen.

Bruno scripted?

If you failed to catch Bruno on Rove the other night, all you had to do is watch Today Tonight or A Current Affair last night and you would've caught the same show.

Bruno aka Sacha Baron Cohen has been criticised in recent weeks for rehashing the same gags on all his appearances he's made on either talk shows, radio shows or even press conferences and this has been evident during his first few days in Australia so far. He only seems to be tweaking his jokes slightly to accommodate Australian audiences.

I personally don't find Bruno as funny as Borat, I'm worried to think the best parts in the movie are all in the trailer and the movie will be no where near as funny or as successful as Boart. I will check it out however, as I think the man's a genius and the way he takes on these characters are so believable. I just wish he or his script writers informed him that hearing the same joke over and over can lose its humour.

The Hangover, Oscar Winning Potential?

There have been whispers among film insiders in Hollywood, that this year's top comedy so far The Hangover (until Bruno hits screens) should and could be one of the nominations for the Best Picture award at next year's Academy Awards.

The Oscars' as they are widely known is considering allowing a 'road trip' style comedy film to be among the usual drama and romance nominations that the Best Picture category generally possesses each year.

This also comes as news that next year's Best Picture award will now have 10 nominations, after major backlash last year over the biggest movie of 2008, The Dark Knight, couldn't even claim a Best Picture nomination at the ceremony. That award went to Slumdog Millionaire.

More on these stories can be found here at the LA Times website and here at News.com.au.
In my opinion I absolutely loved The Hangover and haven't laughed that much in a cinema since Borat, and while the movie probably wont win an Oscar, a nomination is definitely worthy.
I would love to read your thoughts if The Hangover deserves to be up there with Titanic and Slumdog Millionaire as Oscar winners. Comment below.
