The Wolfman movie remake - Hit or Flop?

by Nathan Taylor
That’s the question that puzzling me after watching the brand new trailer (see below) for the remake of the 1941 classic horror film of the same name.
The Wolfman is due to finally hit cinemas in February 2010 after being pushed back several times for script changes plus further tweaks on the special effects… that’s why I’m worried.
This movie will either take off and be huge or it could be a massive flop like most remakes of classic films are.
The movie boasts huge stars that should give it some help at the box office like legend Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada), Aussie Hugo Weaving and Gene Simmons from KISS who’s lending his voice for the Wolfman.
The film is set in the 1880s and sticks to the plotline of the original. The official synopsis states Lawrence Talbot (Benicio del Toro) reunites with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) following the disappearance of his brother. The film details events during Lawrence's past that led to his conflict with his father. The synopsis continues detailing Talbot was traumatized by his mother's death as a child, while Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt) is his brother's fiancée. Following his brother's disappearance, Talbot hunts a murderer, which turns out to be a werewolf, and the curse is passed on.
The movie by Universal Pictures cost $85 million to make and to me I think it will be lucky to make $50 million. Nevertheless it should be an enjoyable film as long as audiences don’t get lost in the plot.
